I personally Tested and Successfully installed Spotify on Ubuntu 18.04 and 17.10, Debian 9 and Linux Mint 18.3. But You can install it on Ubuntu 16.04 and older version Ubuntu, debian or Linux mint too.

Best way to install Spotify application through Snap for easier installation. Snap uses its own library, So you can update your system without fear of any crash. You can install Spotify using Snappy quickly from the command line.
sudo snap install spotify
This will install all required dependencies on your system automatically. You can also install Spotify with regular Ubuntu package manager describes below.
Install Spotify using Debian Package
You can also use the current Debian package manager to install Spotify on latest Debian, Ubuntu or LinuxMint operating system. To use this method first import GPG key to your system.
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 0DF731E45CE24F27EEEB1450EFDC8610341D9410
After that add the Spotify apt repository to your ystem by running the following command:
echo deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/spotify.list
Finally, run the update commands to update the apt cache and install spotify through apt on a Debian, Ubuntu or LinuxMint system.
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install spotify-client
Launch Spotify App-
You can launch Spotify application from menu applications like any application. You can find shortcut on your app launcher.
